In English as a second language classes, ESL students should have the opportunity of asking questions about their understanding of class discussions, homework assignments, and other topics that naturally emerge from teacher and student interaction.

The interactions between ESL teachers and students lead to other topics beyond learning English. Should we encourage students to ask questions on these topics?

I've always been the kind of person that likes to ask questions, and as a teacher, I encourage my ESL students to do the same in our ESL classes together

When I was a high school Spanish student, I never liked to leave my classes with doubts about my understanding of the day's class discussions or what I was supposed to do for homework assignments, and I've always felt responsible for helping my ESL students develop the desire to always want to be clear about what they have learned in their classes by appropriately asking questions of myself and other instructors.

Have you ever been in a situation where asking questions in your ESL classes became more than just an exchange of information and took on greater meaning for students and teacher alike?

Take a moment to read my article on this topic before you respond. And feel free to email me if you would like to suggest a future blog topic.
